We are excited to be taking an adventure to see the root of the traditions we have been documenting for the past few years on Staten Island. We are headed to Ghana tomorrow evening with the help and support of our dear friends (and mentors) Samuel Owusu-Sekyere and Harold Akyeampong. We have been blessed with collaborations and friendships with many Ghanaians here in New York City and look forward to widening our network. During our trip in Ghana, particularly within the Ashanti region, we will be documenting and learning about music, dance, and weaving traditions. All of our Ghanaian friends insist on us maximizing our luggage capacity. They even have warned us to not enter Ghana like “boy scouts” with just a backpack. But we are packing as light as possible.
