Rethinking Memorial

Rethinking Memorial

As part of Brooklyn Arts Council‘s “Return, Remember: Ephemeral Memorials in the Legacy of Sept. 11,” folk arts organized this program, “Rethinking Memorial.” Ten artists, each representing one year since September 11, 2011, created interactive memorial stations that reimagined the traditional memorial and engaged the public in a dialogue about mourning and remembrance. I worked with folklorist and mastermind Kay Turner to organize the event, then had the opportunity to video-interview the artists about their creations.
